Welcome to Your Movement
HerMove is a community-powered campaign dedicated to empowering women and girls of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities within our community. Locally rooted and managed by local volunteers, we are driven by a simple belief: getting active should be an act of self-care, not self-punishment.
We are here to promote local opportunities, inspire genuine connection, and help every single woman and girl feel like she truly belongs.

Our Heritage:
From a Single Spark to a Town-Wide Movement
HerMove was launched to create a positive ripple effect across East Grinstead. The inspiration began during John Belsey’s mayoral year, sparked by a simple but frustrating barrier: his young niece was unable to find a local girls' football club to join.
At the same time, dedicated local health and wellbeing coach Alyson Bowcott recognised that while excellent sports and wellness initiatives already existed in our town, they needed to be brought together and made visible.
Alyson built a team of passionate local volunteers throughout the EGBA network bring the campaign to life.
Today, HerMove is driven forward by our core team:
-
Alyson Bowcott: Networker, Health and Wellbeing Coach
-
Karen Brown: Events and Project Management
-
Louise Lucas: Marketing, Social and Brand Design
-
Morgan Loughton: Website and Content.
Together with local businesses and sports clubs, we are working from the ground up to keep women and girls moving

Why We Exist: Breaking Down the Barriers
Statistically, too many women and girls step away from physical activity. Barriers like a lack of confidence, safety concerns, cost, or the fear of feeling judged keep many on the sidelines. We are here to change that narrative in East Grinstead.
National data from Women in Sport highlights the challenge we face:
-
The Teenage Drop-off: 43% of girls who were active in primary school quit sport by their late teens.
-
The Adult Gap: Only 7% of women over 30 play team sports, proving that leaving sport early impacts adulthood.
-
The Activity Deficit: A third of women aged 41 to 60 do not meet the guideline of 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
HerMove exists to counter these statistics by raising awareness and creating welcoming, non-judgmental environments where women can stay active at every stage of life.
We are here to promote local opportunities, inspire genuine connection, and help every single woman and girl feel like she truly belongs.

Our Three Pillars
We focus our efforts on three interconnected areas to support complete physical and mental health:
1. Health
Supporting girls and women to build sustainable habits, understand their bodies, and access trusted information to feel stronger and more confident every day.
2. Wellbeing
Prioritising mental, emotional, and social wellbeing through self-care and community connections that help women thrive.
3. Sport
Creating inclusive, friendly opportunities to get active, develop skills, and experience the joy of sport without the pressure of perfection.
"HerMove is about giving every girl and woman the chance to feel confident, capable, and connected through sport and activity. It is a local movement with national significance."
