At HerMove, we constantly talk about breaking down barriers, and the belief that it’s never too late to start is one of the most powerful messages we can share. Our newest contributor shares her personal journey of finding strength, confidence, and joy through movement—not in her teens, but later in life as a busy mum.
If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be training to become a personal trainer, I probably would have laughed. Fitness wasn’t always my world it was something I dipped in and out of, but never fully embraced.
My journey really began after having my second son, 14 years ago, when I joined the gym to start moving again. A few years later, after having my daughter (who is now 11), I realised how much I wanted to not only take care of myself but also set a positive example for my children. I want them to see how important being active is not just for health, but for happiness and confidence.
At 36, I decided to pick up a netball ball for the first time since school. I joined a local team, a little nervous and unsure if I’d be “good enough.” What I discovered was more than just a sport it was confidence, connection, and a reminder of how much I loved being active and part of a team. Netball reignited something in me.
This year I pushed myself further and started running with a friend. At first, I thought I’d never get the hang of it, but soon I found a rhythm. Running gave me something new: time for myself, a clear head, and a sense of achievement every time I went further than before.
These experiences have inspired me to take a huge step; I’m now completing my Level 3 Personal Training course. My goal is simple: I want to help women and girls discover the joy of movement to feel strong and confident in the gym to create a habit and find time for themselves. I know how life-changing it feels to find confidence through fitness, and I want to share that with others.

Exercise has given me energy, resilience, strength and joy. My hope is that by sharing my story, I can inspire women whether they’re mums, daughters, or simply looking for a fresh start to try something new.
Fitness isn’t just about looking a certain way it’s building strength inside and out and proving to yourself what you’re capable of.
This story is a powerful reminder that every mum, every woman, and every girl deserves to prioritise their health and find their joy. If you've been putting off finding your move, let this be your inspiration!
