At HerMove, we believe in a holistic approach to movement, which means prioritising recovery and listening to your body. Our newest blog post features Hannah Steele B.Ost, Clinic Director and Principal Osteopath at Simply Osteo, who shares her personal journey from competitive gymnastics to becoming a leading health professional in East Grinstead. Her story is an inspiration for every girl pushing her limits.
By Hannah Steele
When I was a teenager, gymnastics was everything to me. The training, the competitions, the friendships, the sheer joy of pushing myself physically it was all-consuming. But along with that came the injuries. By 15, I had injured my knees which led on to nagging back pain.
Like many young athletes, I thought this was just part of the deal. Until one day, I was taken to see an Osteopath. I had no idea what to expect, but after just one session something shifted not just in my body, but in my mind. The relief I felt was incredible, like someone had unlocked the stiffness and pain that had been holding me back. It was as if I’d experienced a little bit of wizardry.
That single appointment changed everything. I walked out thinking: "this is what I want to do with my life". At 15 years old, I had found my calling!
I arranged my Year 10 work experience at the British School of Osteopathy in London and sure enough, a few years later, that’s where I returned to complete my four-year full-time Osteopathic degree. Today, I’m the proud owner of Simply Osteo, an Osteopathy & Massage Therapy clinic dedicated to helping others find the same relief and freedom of movement that I first experienced as a young gymnast.
What is Osteopathy?
At its heart, Osteopathy is about understanding how the body works as one connected system. Through hands-on techniques, Osteopaths help to release tension, improve movement, and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
For athletes and especially for women and girls in sport it can make a huge difference. Whether it’s a stubborn injury, recurring niggles, or simply the need to keep your body performing at its best, Osteopathy can help you move with confidence again.
Why it matters for women and girls

As females in sport or doing any physical activity or exercise we love, our bodies go through unique changes at different stages of life from adolescence, through hormones, pregnancy, and beyond. That means we sometimes experience injuries or strains differently. Osteopathy recognises those differences and provides a tailored approach, helping us stay strong, resilient, and ready to take on whatever our sport (& life) throws at us.
For me, Osteopathy started with injury. But today, it’s about empowerment helping people get back to the sport and activities they love, moving and feeling stronger and more capable than ever.
Because sometimes, one setback can be the very thing that sets you on the right path!
