More Than Muscle: My Journey Through Fitness, Motherhood & Mentorship

ree

Fitness has always been about more than just the physical for me. As a young girl growing up in a challenging home, sport became my sanctuary. Getting involved in athletics gave me a sense of control over my life when everything else felt uncertain. Even if it was just for the duration of a match, a class, or a race, those moments taught me resilience and gave me unshakable self confidence. I learned early on that, like anything in life, you get out what you put in. Over the years, fitness has been a lifeline, and like all relationships, mine with movement has evolved through different seasons.

From playing football as a 15-year-old, to rebuilding my strength after giving birth to my son at 21, to climbing mountains (literally!) as a 27-year-old woman, movement has remained my anchor. Fitness and sport haven’t just shaped my body, they’ve shaped my mindset. I am a better friend, mother, coach, and woman because of it.

I truly believe that physical and mental strength go hand in hand, you can’t grow one without the other. This belief is rooted in the work I do with my clients. One of my proudest moments was leading a group of them up Mount Snowdon, an unforgettable experience that pushed us all past our comfort zones and reminded us of the power of community. These moments go far beyond the gym. They build resilience, sisterhood, and self-belief that carries into everyday life.

Snowdon Climb Q&A : Katie

1. What made you sign up for the Snowdon climb, and what did it represent for you personally?

I love setting new goals and challenges, and this was something I never thought about doing. But as one of the girls in the empowered community had the idea, it brought a lovely group of women together to take on the challenge and climb Snowden

2. What was the most challenging part of the experience and how did you push through it?

The most challenging part for me was the climb down, due to underlying health conditions and my knees. But surprisingly, the end result was less issues with joint pain than I was expecting. I think the preparation and strength training enabled me to excel beyond my own self limiting beliefs.

3. How did it feel to reach the summit, and what did that moment mean to you?

For me, it was a complete surreal experience… seeing a sunrise and a full moon on opposite sides of the summit. It’s something only a few may experience and for this I am so grateful. It was a very euphoric and emotional experience. Something to truly cherish.

4. What impact has this experience had on you personally? Mindset, confidence or daily life since the climb?

Knowing that I can achieve anything! Surrounding myself with the right people and the right guidance, this helped make this journey enjoyable and more achievable.

5. What would you say to another woman who feels like something like this is “not for them”?

I would say to them ‘Just go for it!’ because if you never do, you’ll never know! Through change comes growth, just like climbing Snowden, I am learning to do more things that scare me, in order to level up.
