Our Bodies Don’t Lie: A Journey of Self-Worth

ree

HerMove, we believe that women's health is more than just a conversation; it's a movement. Our latest blog post from contributor Trish at Nutrition360 is a powerful reminder of this. Trish shares her deeply personal journey of listening to her body, overcoming health challenges, and finding a renewed sense of purpose through nutrition. Her story is a testament to why the HerMove campaign exists and how empowering it can be to truly hear what your body is telling you.

Our bodies don’t lie, but we’re great at pretending.

I think many of us would agree that women’s health hasn’t been given the recognition it deserves. We’re often told to ‘just get on with it’ even when our bodies and minds are telling us something different, and along with that comes the fear of speaking out. That’s the reason HerMove Campaign is something I can really connect with. It's an opportunity to really hear the real stories, challenges, and strengths of women everywhere.

For me, it started in 2013 when I was diagnosed with coeliac disease, and in the last seven years, dealing with menopausal symptoms, where my anxiety was magnified, leaving me with low confidence and generally feeling overwhelmed. After following a gluten free diet, I didn't feel any difference. Then, in 2021, I decided to invest in my nutrition and general wellness and began coaching with the amazing Amanda Hamilton (one of the top 5 nutritionists in the UK and author of the famous G Plan Diet, and BBC TV series How to Live Longer).

I'd learned to make better choices and follow a more natural path, and after being retested in 2022, my results came back clear. Gluten wasn't the enemy, it was the food choices that fuelled the fire for other symptoms I was experiencing. It was a revelation to see the bigger nutritional picture. It had by no means been a quick fix, with many roller coaster moments.

So, my interest in nutrition, coupled with my career in Beauty Therapy and the importance of exercise through twelve years of ballet training, gave me the drive and focus to train in a subject I'm passionate about. It’s given me back my self worth, and at 58 I feel more purposeful than ever. I'm excited to play it forward and share that knowledge, because nutrition truly is the stuff of life.
