Movement For Pelvic Health

At HerMove, our mission is to break down the barriers that stop women and girls from enjoying the benefits of movement. One of the most common, yet least discussed, of these barriers is pelvic floor dysfunction.


We are incredibly proud to share this insightful article from local movement teacher and pelvic health specialist, Susannah White, who explains her revolutionary approach to recovery and why education is key to keeping women active for life.


My name is Susannah White, I have been a movement teacher for the past 20 years and 10 years ago I decided to specialise in helping women and girls of all ages prevent and heal from pelvic floor dysfunction.


A Common Barrier to Exercise

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction is one of the biggest barriers to exercise for women. In the UK, 1 in 3 women suffer from Incontinence and up to half of all women have some degree of pelvic organ prolapse, it is clear how much of the population this affects.


For many years it was believed that the only way women could recover for pelvic floor dysfunction was to do our pelvic floor isolation exercises (Kegels) or receive surgery.


A Whole-Body Approach to Recovery

I have now spent 10 years studying and working with 100’s of women and professionals to be able to offer a much more effective system. Movement for Pelvic Health looks at the whole body from the feet all the way up to the head in order to work out why issues are happening in order to start the recovery process.


Women and girls have historically been classified as weak but I have noticed most of the people I work with suffer from too much tension and add into that the stress of modern day living, it becomes clear that assessing the nervous system as well as the whole body is paramount to recovery.


I incorporate an incredible system into my work called Hypopressives, this system has been a big part of urogynaecological practice for decades in Spain, France, Belgium and Brazil. However, it is relatively unknown in the UK. I will be delivering my first Teacher Training for Physio’s and Health Professionals this October in order to make this movement and breath system more accessible.


Empowering the Next Generation

I strongly believe teaching girls about pelvic health, through movement, breath work, the nervous system and anatomical knowledge, will have a huge impact on keeping them active as they age.

It is imperative that we do not let barriers such as pelvic health stop girls and women from moving their bodies and finding joy in exercise.

Susannah's work is vital for our community, providing women and girls with the knowledge and tools to stay active and confident throughout their lives. We are so grateful to her for sharing her expertise.
