At HerMove, we often talk about how exercise is about so much more than what we see in the mirror. It is about resilience, mental clarity, and, perhaps most importantly, connection. This week, we are delighted to share a guest blog from Tricia Lindsey, who explains how moving with her teenage daughter, Zara, has become a vital way for them to bond and navigate the pressures of the modern world.

For me, running, or any sort of exercise with my daughter, Zara, promotes and models a healthy relationship with movement and self-care. I exercise for both my physical and mental health. This demonstrates to Zara that looking after our physical and mental well-being matters at all ages, and not for appearance, but for strength, resilience, and stress relief.
Zara is a teenager, and in the current world, teenagers face too much pressure around body image and comparison. By exercising together, she can see that I am doing it for health and well-being and certainly not for a "perfect" body!
Exercising together is about so much more than fitness: it is about connection for us. When we exercise together, we have fun, and we see it as something we get to do, not something we have to do. It gives us space and uninterrupted time together to talk without the pressure of sitting face-to-face.
Our conversations flow more naturally when we are exercising side by side. I get to know more about what is going on in her life with friends and school. I believe that exercising together shapes lifelong habits and shared memories. Sometimes exercising is tough, but we achieve it together. We learn to push through discomfort and celebrate successes together.
