We're thrilled to share some fantastic stats from Sunday's EGRFC Girls RugbyFest! The event was a massive success for community engagement and a powerful testament to what happens when we prioritise accessible, fun sport.
In total, we saw 63 players on Sunday, with an amazing 39 new participants joining the club for the first time!
Why These Numbers Matter
These statistics are more than just numbers; they represent 39 girls who took a brave step to try a new sport and 39 new opportunities for them to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience.
Our core belief at HerMove is that movement has the power to change lives. We know that 52% of girls say a lack of confidence holds them back from sport. Events like Rugbyfest directly tackle this barrier by creating a friendly, ego-free space, allowing girls to feel strong and connected on the pitch.
The Breakdown of Growth
The success was felt across all age groups, showing that the interest in girls' rugby is huge:
Age Group | Total Players | New Participants | Existing Players |
U5/U6 | 6 | 5 | 1 |
U7 | 5 | 4 | 1 |
U8 | 5 | 5 | 0 |
U9 | 5 | 5 | 0 |
U10 | 4 | 3 | 1 |
U12 (Combined U11 & U12) | 22 | 13 | 9 |
U14 (Combined U13 & U14) | 13 | 2 | 11 |
U16 (Combined U15 & U16) | 4 | 2 | 2 |
TOTAL | 63 | 39 | 24 |
The enthusiasm from the younger age groups and the high turnout from the existing U12-U16 players show a bright future for the club and for girls' rugby in our area.
Next Steps: Keep the Momentum Going
We’re inviting all 39 new girls back for up to three free trial sessions! A huge thank you to everyone who made Rugbyfest a brilliant morning, especially the East Grinstead RFC coaches and volunteers.
We are now actively inviting girls from EGRFC to become HerMove Ambassadors to champion this growing movement.
