At HerMove, our mission is to empower women and girls through movement in a way that feels accessible and sustainable for everyone. This powerful post from our contributor, Samantha, perfectly captures that spirit. She reminds us that fitness doesn't require a huge commitment, expensive gear, or even leaving the house. The smallest choices can lead to the biggest changes, and there’s always a new way to move, like the joy of Nordic walking.
Little Moves, Big Impact

Movement doesn’t have to mean a gym class or a 10k. Often, it’s the small, everyday choices that make the biggest difference. The PAL campaign Promoting Active Lifestyles was born out of this belief. Choosing the stairs instead of the lift, walking during a phone call, parking at the far end of the car park these are all opportunities to move more without needing extra time or to change into lycra!
Even chores count. Vacuuming, hanging out the washing, gardening they get your heart rate up, move your joints and reset your posture, improve circulation and boost your metabolism. They’re far from “just chores” they’re your quiet daily wins. AND you get to tick something off the to do list, an added bonus!
Try picking one thing today, no overwhelm, no trainers, no lycra, just time spent building good habits:
Walk the long way to the shops, or maybe just walk to the shops
Do a lap of the office every hour
Stretch while the kettle boils
These moments add up. They build strength, energy, and a habit of movement that supports you for the long haul.
Why? Well, here’s just a few things you’ll get:
Improved circulation and mood
More natural energy and alertness
Better sleep when we move during the day, our natural energy patterns restore
A win for your future: consistent movement helps prevent longterm fatigue, metabolic issues, cardiovascular risks.
It’s an investment in your future self, trust me they’ll thank you.
Ready to start? Pick one small change this week, stick with it for five days and feel the difference. Then build in another and what the momentum build.

Walk This Way The Joy of Nordic Walking

Not all walking is created equal Nordic walking brings a full-body boost, using poles to engage your arms and core while lightening the load on your joints.
It’s simple, social, and surprisingly effective. Solo or in a group it’s walking while also improving posture, balance, and strength. It’s more than exercise it’s a mindset shift. It reminds us that fitness doesn’t need to be hard, fast, or solo. It just needs to feel good and be sustainable.
Try it for yourself, or just head out with a friend and walk with intention. Use your arms, lengthen your stride, feel the rhythm. You’re doing more than walking, you’re waking up your whole body.
